Entry #001

This is little more than an attempt to help myself jot down some of the thoughts that I might have throughout the days. Lockdown has meant that I have lost the informal chats that I would otherwise have enjoyed in the office and so I find myself back on Blogger trying to make sense of the world, my first mistake.

I also wanted an opportunity to make use of the Ducky One 2 RGB TKL keyboard I recently bought. It has Brown Cherry MX switches and I attached o-rings to the keycap stems so as to dampen the sound of keys bottoming out. So far I have ben quite pleased with the keyboard, the RGB is good (struggles with white as most LEDs do) and bright if you want it, the ergonomics are nice being numpad-less it brings the mouse closer to the bodyline. There is a heft to the board, even though it appears an entirely plastic construction, the weight lends it a feeling of solidity. Otherwise the overall ergonomics aren't particularly great perhaps, there are two stages of rear feet height, but when lying flat it seems to transmit more of the sound into the desk which is a mite annoying. I had been using it on the highest setting but having reverted to the lower momentarily think this is what I will be sticking with. I would very much like to make a keyboard tray to incorporate a wrist rest.

It was getting on for £150 delivered though so it ought to be the best damn keyboard I've ever used I suppose. I did make my own back in 2015 but really didn't get on with the red switches as it turns out. they just didn't seem to have enough weight to them or something. Only thing I would say is that the space bar could be rounded a bit more, I find I use my left thumb most of the time to hit it and find it struggles a little with the action.

I'm enjoying a hobgoblin beer tonight.

I would quite like a 3d printer or to be able to carve some wood.

I want to make:

  • a wrist rest for the keyboard
  • a holder that holds a samsung wireless charger but that a samsung galaxy s8 slots into to locate it onto the charger every time
  • a headphone stand
  • a toothbrush holder (the electric toothbrush I use, its base isn't water proof so when you leave it to stand on the side it sits in a pool of water from having used it)
